WHAT KINDS OF FISH CAN WE EXPECT TO CATCH?
While bottomfishing aboard the Strike Zone, it is possible to encounter any or all of the following species: jacks, trevally, snappers, goatfish, surgeon fish, trigggers and many more. Ya never know. We're FISHIN'!
WHERE DO YOU GO?
We fish different areas of the inshore waters of Maui depending upon what has been biting in recent days, AND on what the weather is doing. Weather dictates "fishability".
HOW FAR IS IT TO THE FISHING GROUNDS?
It can take up to an hour to reach some of our most productive spots, and we may fish a few different spots on any given trip.
DO YOU EVER COMBINE SPORTFISHING & BOTTOMFISHING?
On the way to and from our bottomfishing spots, we often high-speed troll, so there is always the chance we'll hook up to a trophy fish enroute! All anglers are invited to participate at no additional cost.
WHAT FISHING STYLES DO YOU USE?
We usually drift fish along the bottom in a couple of different locations. This allows anglers to target several different species on each drift. Once we arrive at our bottomfishing spot the crew will instruct the anglers on the use of the tackle (provided by us).
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN STRIKE ZONE ACCOMMODATE?
Strike Zone can accommodate 15 anglers on our bottomfishing trips, as well as additional non-fishing passengers.
IS YOUR CREW EXPERIENCED?
All of the captains and crew that work on board have either been born and raised here, or have lived here for most of their lives. We thrive on fishing, not only as a livelyhood, but also as our favorite form of entertainment!
CAN WE BRING OUR OWN FISHING GEAR?
This is not permitted on share boats, and must be discussed/approved by the captain in the case of private charters.
DO WE NEED A FISHING LICENSE?
No license is required.
CAN WE KEEP THE FISH WE CATCH?
You are welcome to keep your catch on our bottom fishing trips only. On our trolling trips, the catch-of-the-day is shared with all our anglers. Depending upon the amount of fish caught, enough filets will be cut up to accommodate anglers for a dinner or two. We'll even give you a few tips on how best to prepare it!
CAN WE ARRANGE TO HAVE OUR FISH MOUNTED / STUFFED?
Absolutely! Just talk to the captain or crew on board and they'll go over the details with you.
WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
Weather cancellations are determined by the captain. You will not be charged if the captain cancels a trip due to inclement weather. Rain is not considered inclement weather. If it is raining at your hotel/condo on the morning your trip, do not assume that the trip will be cancelled. The rain is often confined to the land, while offshore is clear and sunny.
WHAT IF WE GET SEA SICK?
This does happen to some people, even on the calmest days. If you are concerned about this, ask your doctor to recommend a prevention medicine for you. Also, avoid heavy drinking the night before, and eat a light breakfast, the morning of the charter.
